I reviewed Chloe Luisa Piñero’s solo show, On Being Home, for The Latinx Project’s online publication, Intervenxions. Chloe’s interdisciplinary practice, which encompasses painting, assemblage, digital collage, and book-making, explores self-fashioning, desire, and queerness through figures and landscapes that remix materials from digital and physical spaces. The review considers how the location of the show in an active hair salon invites an engagement with the themes of beauty, desire, and world-building in Chloe’s practice, as well as the stakes of these themes in our immediate context.
